THE MARJORIE BARNES BIOGRAPHY:

Marjorie Barnes was born (birthday: June, 13) in Harlem, New York C...ity, USA.
As a youngster she joined many school and church choirs.
She studied Dance & Drama at New York University and Lesley University. Her first role she got in the Broadway production of Freeman.

The New York Press noticed this newcoming talent and vocal qualities and it landed her roles in a.o. "Hair" (as a member of The Tribe), "I Love My Wife" (as Monica) and various TV plays.

By 1975 she auditioned for becoming a new member of the very popular group Fifth Dimension (Hit: "Up, Up And Away"), she was a member in 1976 and 1977 and they recorded a 7" Single called "Love Hangover" (Diana Ross cover) for ABC Records
During this period she toured around the world and shared the stages with greats like Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra and Billy Eckstein.

She developed herself more as a Jazz singer and toured in Europe. In 1978 she joined in London cast of the Broadway Musical "Bubbling Brown Sugar".

In 1981 she married dancer and choreographer Ricardo Sibelo in The Netherlands, worked with Tom Brown for the first time. In 1983 again and she recorded with arranger the late Jerry van Rooyen (1929 - 2009) her first solo album entitled I Got A Name for the Philips label.
She moved to Zoetermeer, The Netherlands.
Ricardo and Marjorie started a family and they became the proud parents of two sons Laurent and Ryan.
In 1981 she won third place at the famous XXII Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar in Chile, representing Europe with a song called "It Does Not Matter" by Australian composers.
She shared the stage with a.o. Julio Iglesias, KC & The Sunshine Band, Ray Coniff and Maureen McGovern.

She accompanied herself for longer periods to The Skymasters and other orchestra's of Jerry van Rooyen and Peter Herbolzhiemer and worked mostly in The Netherlands and Germany.
Another move in her career was being a Vocal Teacher at
the Conservatoria of Hilversum and The Hague.

In 1993 her second solo album was released, entitled Once You've Been In Love with Dolf de Vries & Strings with guests Thijs van leer and Jean "Toots" Thielemans.
She toured in 1994 with her own solo theatre show "Basic Black" through The Netherlands and Belgium.

In 1996 she was part of the famous Studio 21 Fantasy World Dinner Shows in Hilversum, The Netherlands.
In 1999 she joined the European cast of the Fats Waller Musical "Ain't Misbehavin' " together with Denise Jannah, D'Ambrose Boyd, Ketsia Poitevien and Richar E. Waits

In 2001 she released another CD called Time Heals Everything on Jazz 'M Pulz, with musicians Rob van Bavel (piano), Chris Strik (drums) and René van Beeck (contra bass) and worked with the Orchestra Koninklijke Luchtmacht together with Matthew Dickens, CoCo York, and vocal group DC7 in a show entitled Soul Live.

Around 2003 she was involved in a project around Billy Strayhorn material by The Dutch Jazz Orchestra with the late Jerry van Rooyen (1929 - 2009), she recorded 11 vocals for various Strayhorn albums.
She recorded a Christmas album in Germany with the Frankfurt Radio Bigband, HR-Bigband with Jorg Achim Keller and Frits Landesbergen (Vibes).
In 2004 she was part of the musical ensemble of the theatre show "City" of the famous Dutch comedy duo Mini & Maxi.

Marjorie and Ricardo Sibelo are no longer married and Marjorie moved back to America and lives in Atlanta, where she continues her impressive career.
In 2008 /2009 and she was back in The Netherlands for a mini concert tour.

In 2011 she returned to The Netherlands for a one night only performance.
By the summer of 2012 Marjorie returned to The Netherlands permanently to be with her family and re-start in Europe her career.
